Class two is made up of Years 2 and 3. The mornings are focussed on Maths and English with sessions in handwriting, phonics and guided reading. The class teacher is Mrs Norton who works closely with Mrs Taylor the teraching assistant. We try to place a focus on pupils becoming increasingly independent at this age. With the help of the small class size the children’s work is highly differentiated and all pupils gain a lot of attention and individualised teaching.
All children have school reading books which we ask are brought in everyday. Children are heard read at least once a week although many are heard much more than that; at home children should be reading most days and a note made in their reading record. Most weeks children receive spellings and a times table to learn; these are differentiated according to ability but start with learning the first two-hundred high frequency words, five at a time. Children will not be given new spellings until they are sure of the ones they have already been given.
