Nobody could have predicted how the sun would shine on our scarecrows for the special bank holiday weekend of our scarecrow festival. WELL DONE EVERYONE WHO DRESSED UP!
I have to say I am priveleged to work in a village where all the residents and staff of the school pull together as a team to create a magical and wonderful experience in Wray for all the visitors.
I enjoyed helping out at the Institute on Saturday selling some AMAZING cakes made by the parents here and other people of the village too. Not only are you all very friendly, but super bakers too! The cakes, drinks and friendly atmosphere went down a storm with the visitors, with many people who I spoke to telling me it must be a wonderful place to work, and what a lovely place to visit. They were impressed with the hospitality of everyone that they met. One man told me “I come here four times a year with my wife and I can’t wait to come back each time as it is such an interesting place and everyone is so lovely”.
Wray School are proud to announce that we won the school’s prize! For the first time in the 25 years of scarecrowing, the trophy is sitting proudly next to Mrs Norton Smith’s office. Well done to all of the children that helped to make our ‘Blue Planet’ scene – the whale held quite a meaningful message that must have impressed the judges. Well done also to all of the other winners of the scarecrow competiton (see featured image of the first prize winner!).
School Council told me what they thought of the festival:

“I liked helping my Dad build our scarecrows, the BB8 and Terminator” F. Postlethwhaite
“I did a stall on Saturday and Sunday and I made £130!” H.Watts
